The Quiet Voice has way better dreams than Cal Roeker. Mine tend to bring me back to my youth and simpler times. Nothing really symbolic unless you can say that it is a way to avoid the present.
Roy Orbison wrote “dreams” following the tragic death of his son. A three year old that ventured to close to a swimming pool. Perhaps Roy wrote the song out of guilt thinking that he should have been more watchful. Perhaps the song was just a way of dealing with grief. Only Roy would know the real reason. The song does point to the way dreams allow us an avenue of communication and realization not available when we are awake. Roy’s dream was comforting as opposed to the Quiet Voice dream which seemed to hold an ominous meaning.

Back in the 70’s an unknown preacher named Marshall Applewhite started a cult following called “heavens gate”. Over a period of time he convinced his followers that he was the next Jesus. That he was the path to the kingdom. A spaceship was to come down and take them to the Hale Bopp comet which was the gateway to heaven. All they had to do was cut ties with everything here on earth. Everything including their lives. Sadly 39 followers did just that. There were several other bizarre features to this cult which by the casual observer would have been signs of a deranged and possibly dangerous leader.
Messages come to us through several sources including dreams, and cult leaders. It is up to us to unravel the meanings, take value in what we believe to be true, an reject what we believe to be false. The same goes for religion.
Is the the tower about to fall ? Are the signs out there telling us to take heed? Yes, I believe they are. But, be cautious of the Marshall Applewhites of this world. Beware of false prophets and be careful how you interpret your dreams.
In the meantime I will follow my faith and take pleasure in my simple dreams of youth.
